Tensor-level uncensoring, explained
"Uncensored" can mean two completely different things: a filter you have to trick, or a behavior that is no longer in the model. The difference decides whether your story survives to chapter twelve.
Two ways to make a model comply
Prompt-level bypass keeps the refusal behavior in the weights and tries to dodge it: prefill tricks, system-prompt incantations, roleplay framing. It works often enough to be popular, but it is probabilistic. The refusal direction is still in the model, so long generations, unusual phrasings, or a safety-trained fine-tune drifting in can trigger a refusal mid-story - and one refusal destroys an afternoon of generation.
Tensor-level uncensoring (abliteration) is a different operation. Refusal behavior lives in a direction of the model's activation space; the technique identifies that direction and removes the model's ability to act on it - editing the weights themselves. There is nothing left to trigger, so there is nothing to jailbreak.
Why "0% refusals on an A/B suite" is the number that matters
Claims are cheap; distributions are not. The meaningful metric is a refusal rate measured over a standardized battery of prompts (an A/B suite) covering the categories a model would normally resist, run the same way every time. A model that scores 0% refusals across the suite is not "usually compliant" - the behavior is gone, deterministically, the same way on every request.
That determinism is the practical difference for long-form work: a jailbroken model's compliance rate of 98% means one failure in fifty generations; an abliterated model's 0% means the failure mode does not exist.
What abliteration costs (and what it does not)
Early abliteration techniques traded capability for compliance. The modern generation - and the models we serve, like Qwen 3.8 Flash Next Uncensored - are built so the vision tower, tool calling, and reasoning are intact, with zero measurable capability loss on standard evals. The claim to check is not "uncensored" but "uncensored and still scores at baseline".
The legal-and-lawful framing
Removing refusals is about creative freedom - dark themes, conflict, morally complex fiction - not about enabling harm. Unquant serves openly-available builds for lawful use, and abuse that reaches for real-world harm is out of scope everywhere, by everyone.
